About Chinese Realtors Association of B.C. |
| Background History |
The concept of forming a Chinese Realtors Association was brewed in around June of 1994. TS Mock met regularly with a group of Chinese realtors Raymond W.M. Lee, Lorraine Wong, Jeffrey Chiu and Eve Ng taking turn to treat each other a dinner. The idea was then expanded to include other realtors. Later on, regular monthly meeting was organized, with scheduled topics in each meeting occasion. The first monthly meeting was held on Jul 28, 1994 at Kirin Restaurant at City Square with twelve people present. In the second meeting participants increased to 24 and in the 15th meeting 103. Altogether at least five hundred different realtors attended our meeting at different time. After three full years of informal regular meetings, it was realized that there was a need for incorporation, with workload to be shared with other realtors as Board Directors. The name was finalized to "Chinese Realtors Benevolent Association" with 13 Directors. The Charter night was taken place on Jun 27, 1997 with about 300 people attending our Charter night Dinner & Dance. The number of Board Directors increased on two occasions, the first time from 13 to 17, and then from 17 to 19. The number of Departments also increased from six to nine, then to 12 in the last three years. Two more new Departments are proposed to be added in our coming calendar year, one is "Web-Site Coordination", and the other is "Special Projects". Board meetings were held monthly to facilitate the organization of all our activities. Membership (during the period Jun 94 - May 97) was about 500 people (when Realtors did not have to pay any annual membership fee). Starting from June, 1997 membership fee was set at $20 per year for regular members, $25 for Associate members and $100 for Life members. Our regular function comprises of four Dinners/Seminars a year, one AGM party in June, and one Christmas Party in December of every year. Occasional Breakfast/brunch gatherings or panel discussion are being held when required. In 2002, our Association web-site was launched and we also had Webmaster to help out our web-site affairs. In 2004, our Association name was changed to Chinese Realtors Association (taking out the word "Benevolent) to make it more straightforward. In 2005, our membership was changed from $20 per year to $100 one time for life for both our Regular and Associate members. In 2006, our Association started a new organization management with one President and three Vice-Presidents, with responsibilities in three areas: Education & Benefit, Web-site & Public Relations, and Membership & Communication. In 2007, our Association had participated in many other charity activities, other than our annual support to SUCCESS Walk w/the Dragon (for the last 10 years), we also participated in our Real Estate Boards Blanket drive, and had participated in the Tapestry Foundation to raise funds to purchase a new Medical Diagnostic Equipment for Womans Breast Health by supporting a silver sponsorship for $2,500. |
